On 7 February 2001, 91-year-old Nelly Cutress was attacked in Kidbrooke, South London.
She died one month later.
Nelly was mugged on her way to a pensioners' club on the Ferrier Estate. She was thrown to the ground and her shopping bag snatched. Up to that time she had enjoyed an independent life but the physical ordeal she endured that day saw her independence ended. She was forced to give up her flat for sheltered care.
A blood clot, caused by weeks of reduced mobility following the mugging, killed her.
The youth who attacked her was black.
He has never been caught.
