On 2 April 1993, 72-year-old Constance Brown was attacked and robbed in Streatham, South London.
She died in hospital a few days later.
Constance was violently mugged by 18 year old Anthony Small, a 6ft 2in black drug dealer. He knocked her to the ground, smashing her head against the pavement, and made off with the contents of her handbag. He was sentenced to just five years in jail and was released after less than three.
In June 1997, Small was again sentenced to five years in jail for supplying heroin.
In 1996, his mother was awarded £110,000 compensation for false arrest, relating to an incident in 1991, in which she attempted to obstruct the police whilst they were arresting her son.
